DAMIEN FLEAU

BIOGRAPHY

Damien Fleau is a saxophonist and pianist by training. He is a multi-instrumentalist with varied influences, he is passionate about Stanley Kubrick and Tim Burton. He lives between St Malo and Paris.

His mastery of synthesizers, brass, and piano places him in the continuity of great screen music composers such as Ludwig Göransson, Steve Reich, and Philip Glass. With grandiose but also intimate compositions, his techniques are in favor of music tinged with electronic sounds and analog synthesizers and orchestral music, while offering warmer compositions. Damien Fleau brings strong influences into his compositions, sometimes symphonic like Mozart and Wagner, or cold and monumental like Hans Zimmer. He also composes more organic compositions: Damien Fleau is a saxophonist in a jazz quartet called FESTEN, offering energetic live performances inspired by Danish cinema and 1990s rock like Sonic Youth.

This diversity led him to work with directors such as Coline Serreau for her film “Everything is permitted” or with New Yorker Shawn Christensen  – Oscar for Best Short Film – for his film “The Vanishing of Sidney Hall” starring Elle Fanning, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on 2017. He composed the soundtrack of the Disney+ TV show about the life of the singer Soprano “A la vie à la mort”. Then, Damien Fleau just released a new score for the TV show “Alexia, autopsy of a Feminicide” directed by Thomas Chagnaud on Canal+.

In 2023, he released his first solo piano album: “Breaking Waves” with a concert at the Café de la Danse in Paris in January 2023. He is now on tour and benefits from the support of the SACEM.

Since 2020, he has also worked with James Thierré on his show Mo’s with whom he co-wrote several pieces. Damien Fleau is currently working on several projects such as the music for the documentary on the creation of the musical show LA HAINE, which will be released in 4 episodes for CANAL + in 2024.
